Pocket Wing, the downwind foiling partner

Five-O windsports pioneered a simple to use, lighweight and stowable pocket wing before the term Parawing was even dreamt up.

Quite simply, we wanted to downwind the smallest board possible

Now in our second generation, we have raised the game with better upwind performance, more power and better control.

Before the parawing...

..having a way to downwind foil without even a lightweight wing in the way and to use the smallest board and foil we could. We needed instant low end power that could then be removed just as quick.

Built to last seasons

Our lead designer has spent a lifetime riding and repairing windsports equipment. Our designs are a response to products in the market that have fallen short on delivering a long lasting, high performing experience for riders.

Reasonable prices

We place our orders with the factory based upon pre-orders with a few more added for stock. By operating efficiently we can offer riders a top end product at a mid range mainstream price.

Dream Performance

The combination of advanced design, exotic materials throughout and exacting quality control deliver performance and ease of use in equal measure.

While latecomers to the parawing party have chosen one single handle and the consumer has run with it, we found that dual handles allow for another dimension of control and wider comfortable wind range which is a major drawback of many parawing designs.

Once flying the pocket wing comfortably, the handles can be clasped in the same hand offering the same freedom as a single handle.

Need more power? place a handle in each hand and open up your shoulders. This will project a greater surface area to the wind.

Managing gusts becomes instinctive, closing the hands together to close the canopy and reduce area, a single handle will never offer this level of control.

Our V1 pocket wing didn't really go upwind so this became the main priority in developing the V2. The V1 remains a great, simple choice for those wanting an alternative to paddling up at the start of a run but it isn't the tool for running loops.

We can now confidently say that the Pocket Wing performs brilliantly upwind, the dual handles are joined by a harness line as standard making this even easier. This summer, in Hood River, we tested the V2 alongside the leading Parawings and found that its performance upwind was excellent, opening up the opportunity to just run laps over our favourite sections of the river.

Stowing was always our first goal when we defined this discipline several years ago.

We use short bridle lines, a soft rolled leading edge and a very light cloth to ensure that the Pocket Wing really does fit in a pocket!

Parawing, like foil assist, is best when you're not using it so we never lost sight of this during our development programme.

Our Dynamo wingfoil wing was amazing for "Downwingers" but we were always left wondering if we could find the freedom of downwinding without a wing at all, without sacrificing the performance of small boards and foils.

We distilled the requirements down to:

  • A need for significant power to get up on foil
  • A soft textile wing that could then be packed once wave power took over
  • Something that could be redeployed quickly without pumps or tools.
  • Cost effective - foiling is expensive enough
  • Easy to travel with (either internationally or just for the shuttle back)
  • Simple to use, maintain and repair

  • Coming from Wingfoiling? You'll need to get used to not having the vertical lift of a wing for support but, with a couple of beach handling sessions you'll be surprised how quickly the powerful pockewting is to pick up.
  • Coming from Kitefoiling? You're lucky, the transition will feel very natural to you. the lines are shorter but you'll very quickly be packing your pocketwing away and ripping downwind without worrying about keeping your lines tensioned.
  • From other non-wind foiling disciplines (SUP/Prone/Assist)? You may want to spend a bit of extra time dialling your handling on land and developing wind awareness but the Pocket Wing is best when its packed away and you're riding bumps, this bit is already second nature to you.
  • From a cold start. It is possible to learn foiling from scratch with a pocket wing but it may be better to learn another discipline first and then transition to parawing. We did not design the Pocket Wing as an entry to foiling.
